Not starting afer swap

ok, everything is hooked up, went to start the car after making sure the engine was on the compression stroke and at the top, put the cap on, went to start it, nothing it just cranks. I know there is compression, there is spark cause I took the spark plug out to see if it was sparking and it is, and it doesn't smell like gas. I know there is gas cause I gave it so much gas at one point that some came out the headers.

So, the only thing I can think to do is to repeatidly try starting it while changing the starter slowly until it actually starts to fire.

anyone have any insight into this? From what I know it should be starting right up ... but it just aint.

check timing, make sure the dist isnt 180 out, and if you have gas coming out of your headers it sounds like its terribly flooded. also it would be helpful to know what exactly we're dealing with.. what type of induction system are you running, what engine, what type of ignition etc...

2 hours after letting it sit, it started to catch MUCH better. but still wouldn't start, it felt like it needed gas, but didn't want to flood it again.
