Testing a theory, please read within...

I'm using Desk Top Dyno 200 to figure this:

My 305TPI makes 100hp and 289ftlbs @ 2000 RPM.

If I build a 350, with Edlebrocks RPM Manifold, RPM Cam, and Victor Jr's Heads, this motor can rev past 7000, while making over 430hp, have peak torque of 399 @ 5000, and still make more power and torque @ 2000 than my 305.

I am wondering if I create such an engine, can I leave everything else alone in my car,(ie... stock converter, gear ratio)and this be one radical engine. I mean, I know I could benifit more with a converter, but this should still be streetable like stock, and I should not notice any bogging at low rpm's right? Or am I totally clueless here, and overlooking the obvious?

What do you guys think?

Here's a list of things you will need to change, remember 430hp will break a lot of our factory parts easy!!

1) Tranny rebuilt with stronger components and higher shifting points to accomadate higher rpm engine (corvette servo).

2) Stronger torque converter

3) Bigger injectors (30 lb/hr??)

4) Stronger rear-end or rebuild that one with stronger axles and go to 28 spline found in the 90 and later rear-ends and a stronger posi unit and gears, because the first time those tires really hook up on say a drag strip you can probably kiss that rear-end good bye! Which brings up the next point..

5) Bigger tires for traction. More hp does no good unless you can get it to the ground.

6) 1 3/4" headers and a 3" exhaust system if not 3.5".

7) Last but not least some brakes to stop you when you are running 150+ and a little old lady decides to pull out in front of you !

If you build a 350 that's going to rev to or past 7000 then that better be a strong 4-bolt block and a big cam. A cam that big will require a custom chip to work properly with your TPI. You will need all upgrade TPI components to be able to flow to 7000rpm...58 mm TB, bigger runners, ACCEL Superram plenum, ported aftermarket intake manifold or a miniram setup. 7000 rpm is a lot more rpm than most 350's will ever see. Your putting a lot of stress on all the engine components at that high of rpm and will require top quality components to be able to continously withstand those rpms day after day. You are looking at some more $$ for the higher quality engine components.

Or you could just stick with around 350 hp and still be plenty fast but with a lot less $$ spent. Just my 0.02 worth....have fun and good luck.
