ah...car overheated!

My car overheated today while driving thru traffic. It went all the way to 240degrees. I have a 305 TPI speed density so I know my heads are not aluminum so I'm sure they are fine. But how can I tell I didn't do any damage. Car runs the same it did before.

Funny thing is that my coolant level was excellent, my fans work, my water pump was recently changed, and my thermostat is brand new (stock 195). What would cause this? Should I switch to a JET 195 fan switch?
thanks

my car over heats every now and than. make sure your fans turn on.it is posible that the termostat was installed upside down but not likley. up grading to a gta rad would probebley help a lot. my friend was teling me that heat(in turms of engine temp) is horespower. i would also try making some kind of cold air intake to help keep your intake charge cool. also you might be runing a little bit rich.hook up an otc of snap on scaner to see if ther are any sensors that are shot. make sure your lower rad hose hasnt colapsed, that would cause a motor to over heat

Sometimes the T'stat sticks in the closed position(mine did this last week and it too is new). 240 degrees is not too bad so long as you do not make a habit of it and do not worry about the engine, just keep an eye on that temp guage incase it goes up again, something else may be wrong.
