mystery wire

There is a wire that clips to something that juts out like a spark plug tip between (but higher than) the drivers side front plugs. This wire had a grey cap which is all but busted it comes out of the same harness that the o2 sensor wire goes into. I managed to attach the remainder of the bare clip to this protrusion. Can anybody tell me what this wire is for? Sorry for the crummy description but without being able to see underneath my manifold better I can only feel the piece.

Sounds like the coolant temp guage sender, although mine is wired up and through the injector harnesses...

So that wire sends temperature readings to my temp gauge at dash? Because I believe the fan temp switch is lower on the block on passenger side, if I remember right, I replaced that one with the JET performance lower temp switch.
