NON-Thirdgen? ABOUT A 73 NOVA SUPER SPORT?
NON-Thirdgen? ABOUT A 73 NOVA SUPER SPORT?
Ok I have a 73 Nova SS all in all it is not in real bad condition but I really want to change the front brakes to rotors instead of Drums. I want to know if all the parts like of a 75 or 76 would interchange to make it a front wheel disc brake car?
thanks
thanks
Met,
Check the numbers closely. The RPO tags back then were a atamped metal plate affixed to the firewall instead of a cheesy plastic label. Unless it was a special order, a SS in '73 should have had Delco-Morraine disc brakes on the front end, single piston floating caliper on pins.
If not, it would be easy enough to find any '70s-something mid-size GM and swap the spindles. Check Chevelles (Malibu and Laguna), Cutlass, Camaros, Skylark, Ventura, LeMans and GTO, all the mid-sized station wagons, and Monzas (if you can find them). Most of those had front discs since 1971 standard. I'm guessing that "SS" may have started life a a plain-Jane Nova, maybe even with a 250 CID inline six and aircooled PowerGlide. The postal service used to lease a sh*tload of them (I used to have the local service contract work).
