what kind of power would a stock 82 camaro pace car put out?

With any luck in the next 3 or 4 weeks, i'll be able to finally buy a camaro, and there is a dealership around where i live that has a indy 500 pace car, and from the research i've done on the net, those are an 82. And i also read on the site, that the pace cars came with a 5.7 that had 250hp, but from all the other stats i've seen on 82's there isn't a 5.7 available.

so what engine do the pace cars have? is it the 5.7 or just the 5.0? and is there anything special about them aside from having the decals and supposedly bigger engine?

i'm gonna go see how much they are askin n how many miles it has tomorrow or the next day, and i'm pretty sure it will be there when i'm able to get it cause its already been there for a while, and i can tell it needs paint n probably just some other tlc. so i'm not worried about anyone buying it before i can.

i'll also post some pics when i go n see it too..

hmm, just reread the article and it said only two of them had the 5.7. oh well.. is there still anything special that separates them from the rest of the 82 camaros?

From this page https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/techdb.shtml I would say between 145 and 165 hp depending on the type of induction it has.

Don't even bring up a 5.7 engine in a 82 model. Also the only engine in 82 would have been a 5.0 with a Carb and about 150 HP.

Transmission: need one of those
The 82 was also available with a 165 Hp engine. It used the cross-fire injection intake. I know because I had one.

alright, i just wasn't sure if there was anything else different (ie, suspension, brakes, etc)

and is it any harder to swap a 350 into an early camaro such as an 82 than it is a later year, cause 165hp just insn't enough considering that what my beretta puts out and its lighter than a camaro.

There was either a 5L 4bbl engine or a 5L CFI engine.

No 5.7 available untill '87.
