Timimg question

After a long and painfull tbi to tpi swap i am almost there. The car runs alright enough to drive it but i can hear a popping sound coming from what sounds like the throttle body when driving it ever now and then and the car is idleing at 1600 to 1800 rpm's, but i still have to check the IAC yet. The voltage to the TPS reads .56 and WOT is 4.79. My timing is at about 4 degrees when i checked it. My question is does the timing have to be set at exactly 0 degrees ? ...Would it being set at 4 degrees make that much of a difference. And i know when i set the base timing i have to have the brown wire , but do i have to have the IAC unpluged too? If so, should i run a jumper wire in the A and B diagnostic terminal and turn the key on and then disconnect the AIC? Any help here would be greatly appreciated. I am so close to getting this done and now it seems to be teasing me...Thanks David and yes i am running a stock chip w/o vats.

4° shouldn't make any real difference whatsoever. The IAC doesn't have to be closed and disconnected, but it can be if you want.
