Pop-up headlights acting funky.

Just noticed another guy posted on this. I just started getting problems yesterday with mine.

Now when I turn the light on for just the foglights (I push JUST the right part of the headlight button, so only the parking lights should come on) and the headlights come up. They shouldnt come up until I push the left side of the switch also.

Also, the left headlight stutters on its way up, it takes noticeably longer and when it finally does get up the motor doesnt stop spinning for a few seconds.

Any idea whats fubar?? THanks!

I just took mine apart and rebuilt them. Apparently (from what I can tell anyway) these things are actually designed to slip a little bit and the motor should keep spinning a little bit once it's up. The gear inside is packed with some sort of crystalline crap that provides friction so it can turn. The gear that turns the actual drive gear for the headlights doesn't actually fully seat, just a little bit amd that crystalline junk provides the rest of the friction to make the headlights travel smoothly. It's weird, took me a while ot figure out when I had mine all busted open.

Actually, that "cystalline" crap used to be solid round cylinders. I took a good one appart to figure it out. I replaced mine with some harder plastic, and they have worked fine for 4 years or so. I think GM planned to replace a lot of these for future income...

Your first problem appears to be connected to your switch. change it, it does not cost that much. second off, i would take a look at the arm mechanism the lifts and lowers the door. the one connected to the motor itself. if these get rusty or damaged the motor you bounce around like a fish out of water on the way up and down. I have ahd three third gen firebirds and have had this problem on all of them.

hope this helps
