Hi there, I am planning on getting a 3rd gen firebird/trans am. I want to know what year FIREBIRDS got fuel injection, not trans ams. Thanks!

 

Only two engines received (TPI) fuel injection. The LB9 305 TPI & L98
350 TPI. so check the rpo codes & vin number. Only the base Firebirds did not have these engine options.

 

I believe the question was which Firebirds have fuel injection, not just TPI. Starting in 89, GM put TBI on the 305 & installed in the F-bodies, not to mention the MPFI V-6's out there that started in the 1985 model year.

 

don't forget about that bastard child mix of a carb and fuel injection unit called TBI
came on 305 lo3 motors

 

1983-84 cars were available with CFI (CrossFire Injection) which is a form of electronic fuel injection. 1985-87 cars were available with TPI, but as TA and GTA models. 1988-later models were available with TPI or TBI, in base, Formula, TA, and GTA models. The TBI engine because the base V-8 in 1988. Earlier and later V-6 engines had MPFI (Multi-Port Fuel Injection) and were available in the base vehicles.
