i have a 91 firebird with a 3.1 v-6 and i bought it with lots of problem well i say that cuz on the way home the left front brake locked up but now it wont start all the time. it only starts when the security light goes off when you turn the key on but if it stays on it wont start at all so if anyone knows whats wrong with it i would really love the help. well thankx

 

Does it turn over? Does it do nothing when you turn the key?
Does it have the VATS? We will need more info to help out.

 

That's an easy one..that's VATS. Any time the "Security" light stays on, you've tripped the VATS system. It takes like 5 mins of doing nothing to reset it... Mine used to periodically set the VATS off...pain in the ***... How often does it happen? I'd suggest going to a dealership and trying to get another key made...although a fair warning, they aren't cheap! Actually last I checked Ace hardware...YEAH, ACE! cut GM chip keys...I assume they had the chip resistance tester but I never asked. It might be worth a phone call though...might be able to get one cut there considerably cheaper than what a dealership would charge.
