92 RS HEI external coil distrubutor

I did a 305 tbi to 350 carb swap. Will my old distrubutor work? I'd really like to use it cause it's got the MSD GM blaster coil..and I don't have the money for another distributor.

it will work for now. problem is you will not have any timing advance. because that is controlled by the computer. it will start and run, just no advance.

No.

It has no provision for advance, other than the computer; which you can't use since it will be hopelessly confused and mad about having no control over fuel delivery.

You will have to have a distributor with mechanical and vacuum advance, otherwise your car will run very lazy, overheat, and get terrible gas mileage. I know that's not what you wanted to hear, but sometimes that's the way the truth is.

You can get kits to hook up an external coil to an early HEI, but by the time you do that, you will spend as much money as buying a whole coil.

There's really no solution other than buying the right kind of distributor.
