A quick head question!

Hey I see a lot of people talking about having to get new valve covers when they get new heads because of perimeter bolt valve covers. Well, which is stock, or are both stock. If both, what did 1987 350 l98's come with...or both? Just trying to quickily see if my heads are stock...I have no idea what all 5 of the previous owners of my car have done.
Thanks
Corry

87 motors came with centerbolt style.

"Stock" was perimeter bolts from 55-85 or 86, with a change in 59 to the bolts straight across from each other. From then on they were center bolts.

Some of the aftermarket heads have both setups. No GM ones do however.
