Porting stock heads & valve job + seals?
hey guys, i was thinking about having my stock heads ported and having a valve job done since i'm not ready to buy new heads/cam yet. i also know my valve seals are needing to be changed, good to do at the same time? and if i'm having a shop do all this what can i expect $$ wise?
any tips on what to have done exactly since i'm not too familiar with head porting and valve jobs is appreciated, thanks!
also - what gains if any can i expect from this hp or 1/4 e/t wise?

For what the cost will be to have a shop pull your heads, port them, and rebuild them, you could easily by some aftermarket Al. heads and bolt them on yourself.
If the job is too intimidating for you, you may want to invest in a manual to see what's involved, then invest in tools.
Even buying a new set of heads, investing in a toolset and doing the work yourself, you'll be money ahead.
Also, since it would be your first time doing this, I'd plan one weekend to pull it all apart and another to install and set it up.

thanks for the reply, but a new set of heads would be near $1,000 as opposed to a few hundred bucks to have mine worked, no?
it's my daily driver, so i don't really have 2 weekends in a row to be setting aside for it whereas i can have a shop i know do it in 2 days.

That $200 price for a valve job, is more than likely if you bring ther heads in... not with the shop removing the heads and then reinstalling them.
I'd make a guess if you have TPI you'll have about 12 hours of removing and install labor to pay for, plus reconditioning the heads...maybe 4 hours less time on a TBI or Carb'ed engines.
You can see why (if you do the work yourself) you're better off buying and installing a new set of heads.
