roller rocker arm help!
I just bought some comp cams magnum 1.52 roller tip rocker arms (1412-16) for my 86 (non-self aligning). The instructions say push rod guide plates MUST be used. I thought these were a direct bolt on. Are there any roller tip rockers that work without guideplates?

Roller tip rockers
Check your heads where the pushrod goes thru, if it is a slot you are good to go. If it is a round hole then you will need guide plates to use them.

Thats what I thought. I do have the slots in the heads. But the way its worded in the instructions, it sounds like guideplates are required at all times.

you only need, or can use, one locating method for the rockers. using 2 will cause you problems. you ought to be good with out guide plates.
I agree, and beleived this.. UNTIL I opened up a stock 89 L98, and what did I find??? Pushrod slots, AND factory guided rockers. Seemed to work for a 130k miles too. In fact it was still working when the oil pump pickup fell off and the motor spun 2 rods!!
