aftermarket steering wheel horn hookup

Those of you with aftermaket steering wheels, how did you hook up the horn? I am trying to avoid running a bunch of wire up the steering column for my new wheel.

thanks

I used the original wiring and the horn kit designed for the wheel.

Yeah, most of those aftermarket wheels should come with a kit to keep the factory horn in sync. If you have a Grant wheel, most auto parts stors carry the install/horn kit for $25. You may actually have to take off all the steering wheel adaption parts and go a little deeper into the column to find the wires...thats what I had to do. Check your Chiltons and find out what color the wires are so you know what to look for.

Yeah I used a combination of the supplied kit and what was in the car and kind of reinvented it. It works like a charm.

On my grant formula gt wheel, one wire from the existing horn spring to the grant horn button--that's it.

On my factory wheel, it was hooked up to the horn button with a female spade connector. Unhooked it from the factory horn button, and hooked it back up to the Grant button.

Works like a charm!
