Distribor will not go back in!!!!
Have 89 GTA 305 TPI with HEI distb. external coil. Changed the pick up coil and now can not get the distb back in. Had to remove the gear and shaft to change pickup coil. Not sure if i got the spacer between gear and housing indexed in the same place. Same with the gear. Have the dimple on the gear alinged with the rotor. Distb will not fall down on oil pump shaft.Its 1/2 from seating to the block. Marked location of rotor prior to removing but now trying TDC on #1 and indexed oil pump to align with rotor pointing to #1 cyl. Any help would be great.

Once the distributer gears are engaged (but not the oil pump slot) you will have to crank the motor over (by hand) until the slots line up. Then the distributor will drop in the rest of the way. Then make sure your rotor marks still line up, otherwise, try again.
