I dont know the subject for this........

This question may only make sense to me but...Lets say you have an IROC with the T56 tranny (I hate automatics). The IROC had about 280 hp stock I think, and lets say you moded it up to 450 to 500 HP (you have a SCer ). My question is, will the engine, tranny, axle, and etc. be able to hold up to the torque/horse power? Oh, and as you see I dont have anything near an IROC, but Im getting a V8 this winter or spring! So my second question is for all the 400+ HP SCed manual fbody owners on here. I know NOS (well actually heard) will make your RPMs fly up there when you spray it. So does a SCer do the same? Thanks abunch!

Primate,

For the second question, a supercharger will have a more gradual effect than nitrous spray. A turbo has lag then a definite "kick". A straight blower just keeps increasing the power. A centrifugal evidently acts more like a straight blower until the RPMs get fairly high, then boost and power tends to drop off more than with a straight blower.

To answer your first question more directly, a Muncie T-56 won't take the sudden application of power as well as some other transmissions, but a gradual increase will cause less moment torque and likely help the gearbox survive better. The rear axle is a different story. At over 450 HP you'd better start looking for a couple more bolts for your rear cover or conver to a Dana or specially build 10-bolt.

But back to the question you didn't ask, get your V-8 first, build and install it, then make the necessary chassis mods. If you hit 400+ HP, you'll have a little more than gears and axles to worry about.

Monkie,

With that kind of power routed through a clutch-dumping manual, the rear suspension is going to take a serious beating. Boxed LCAs would be a good start. Make sure the mounting bushings and body brackets are sound before you dump your first clutch. You should make sure your transmission mount and engine mounts are in good condition. The torque arm bolts and bushings had better be tight. The track bar and brace (panhard rod for us old farts) is inconsequential for straight-line forces, but you might as well torque them down to specs while you're under there. And before you roll out from under the car, check the U joints so you know what size buy when yours let go.

Since the body is going to be flexing a bit, subframe connectors are almost a necessity, and if you have a 'T' top, there is no question about them as a requirement. With all the torque stress on the front crossmember, a strut tower brace will help keep you from redesigning the steering geometry via frame twisting. A "Wonder Bar" lower sub frame connector can't hurt, either.

Other than that, you should notice no real problems other than throwing the battery into the brake booster if it isn't bolted down well.
