yet another canister question
yet another canister question
when i dropped my 350 this summer i didnt hook up any emissions stuff...including the charcoal canister. i left the line to the tank plugged in but the other port is just open. ive been smelling gas lately and suspect the canister...so my question is how do i reconnect it? can i just tie it right in w/ the pcv valve? or is there anything else i can do with it?

The evaporative canister purge should occur at the same time the EGR is enabled. This is at moderate cruise, light throttle, warm engine. You should be able to find a timed vacuum port on your carburetor that has a light vacuum when the throttle is just above idle (not the distributor advance port). This would normally be connected through a Temperature Vacuum Switch to enable a light vacuum to the purge line on the canister. Somewhere between should be a control valve and tank pressure control valve.
Your original vacuum hose routing should have looked something like this:
