L98 Questions
How good are L98 aluminum heads? Are they worth buying new?
I'm planning a stock type rebuild on an 87 IROC with maybe a
slightly more radical cam. Any cam suggestions? Or is it even worth camming with stock TPI components? What type of pistons
were used in these motors? I'm rebuilding this motor for a friend
of mine and maybe buying the car later on.

From what I hear, ported L98 heads can flow very well. I believe in stock form they don't flow much better than iron heads. But you'll also lose 50lbs from the front of the car. . For a cam, a ZZ4 cam would be nice. If you get the ported L98 heads a bigger cam is ideal. Also get flat top pistons. That should give you in the range of 9.5 comp ratio and maybe like 10.0 with the aluminum heads.
