Question about fuel pump fuse.....

I was testing the brakes on my Iron Duke SC in the apartment parking lot today. I slammed on the brakes and the car immed. died. Fuel gauge said there was 1/4 in there. Anyhow, added more fuel and no go. Checked the fp fuse and it was fried. My question is, is the fp fuse supposed to fry when running out of gas? Or is there something else wrong? The fp relay is dead but the car still runs and drives.

Thanks,
Brandon

You can run without the relay, but not without the fuse. The fuel pump has a redundant path around the relay through the auxilliary oil pressure switch. Once teh engine is cranking and producing more than 4 PSIG of oil pressure, the pump should run. However, both paths recieve their power through the same fuse. In addition, the ECM receives its main power through that same fuse, so the injector and electronic spark timing won't be operational without the fuse.

Happened again today. Blew another fp fuse. The relay is not working. Tried a new one from Pep Boys and nothing. Why am I blowing fuses?

Thanks,
Brandon
