Did you bring #1 (front passenger side on our 2.8 and 3.1 v6's) up to TDC, of the compression stroke, when you checked the rotor position?
All I did was check. I'm kindof sketchy on this subject which is why i'm asking for help. I am clueless when it comes to ignition/spark. Any steps I can take to get you more info just let me know. Lamen's terms help too. ahahahahahah

Quick test: Disconnect coil wire so the engine will not start. Take out #1 spark plug. put you finger over the spark plug hole and have someone jog the starter. TDC will be when the pressure pushes your finger off of the hole as the timing marks line up. That is TDC. Take off the distributor cap. Rotor should be pointing to #1 plug wire. Follow the firing order (not sure clockwise or counterclockwise).

Well.. you said all you did was check? So you just lifted up the distributor cap and the rotor wasn't pointing at #1?
That's fine, leave it alone.
The engine spins, the rotor spins, etc. The rotor will only point at #1 when the number one cylinder is all the way up in it's bore (top dead center), and the camshaft is set up for the compression (both intake and exhaust valves closed) stroke.
Put the dist cap back on, buy a $40 timing light, and go check the timing.
