Street legal 400 small block running low 10s?

ok. i read a mustang article last night. I just wanna see my competition...hehe. this mustang had a ford 4 something bb. running 9.58 or something. naturally aspirated street legal1!!!!! a)what do their engines have on ours to be able to crank out more hp. (yes i know there is more to 1/4 times than engine alone...he had lots of mods in the drive train and suspension.) b)could i run low 10s with a naturally aspirated 400 small block bored stroked with the right setup??? i want to. thanks.

you could, but don't bother...you'd need to run a super high compression so you'd need to fill up with race gas everytime and you could make it street legal if you keep it quiet and have it pass emissions, but it wouldn't be street friendly at ALL...if you want to run 10's and still be able to drive it most places just supercharge it or nitrous it, but you need to build the block to be able to handle the extra pressures.

A 406 can be built to 600 hp and run on pump gas and be streatable. It's just an expensive proposition.

Check out AFR's web sight. They have a couple combinations there at 550 & 570 hp. They have mild cam profiles too.

It doesn't really matter though. If you can't get 'er to hook up, then you can't use the power.

10s is not a problem. Low tens requires that the weight be in the 3200 lb range (approx 1 hp for every 5.5 lbs should do it) and quite a bit of suspension work. Plus you are talking about 134 on the top end. Your going to have to twist it pretty hard and have about a 4.10 gear.
