Will an 88 TPI A4 Computer work in an M5?

This ad was on the Classifieds page

"I have a brand-new computer with stock chip for a 1985-92 IROC/Z28 W/305 TUNED PORT INJECTION (TPI) I WILL TAKE $75 plus
shipping. This would cost over $250 new."

I called and he said it was off an 88 TPI AutomaticeI have an 88 TPI Manual..he had the 305 too..will it work? I know we have diferent cams..I didnt know if this changed anything within the ECM.

The computer should be a 7165 TPI computer for 86-89, but you will probably need a PROM for a 5-speed car.

it'll work, but the shift up light will be lit when cruising.

Well the PROM I have now is for my car..Can't I just use it? Also, is there a sure fire way to test if the ECM is bad? The shift light will always remain lit even if I have the right PROM? DAMNIT!! I am getting a new ECM to try and get rid of the SES light!!..I don't need another gay orange light telling me something..

The "SHIFT" lamp is only wired on manual transmission cars. The ECM uses the same output terminal to operate the "SHIFT" lamp on manuals or the TCC relay on automatics. The difference is in the vehicle, not the ECM. The ECM uses a different PROM to operate the output differently on each car, but he hard wiring difference is in the vehicle.
