Dynoed 45hp more in 2nd than 3rd. Why?
I have a 700R4 and a rebuilt 350. I took it to the dyno yesterday and made 2 pulls. 1st pull was in 3rd (D) 253.2hp@3000...after that it just dropped slowly. Same with torque. Shot up to 285.5, then died off after 3500. I tried it in 2nd, and put 298.9hp @ 5600 and 331.8 @ 5600. On the dyno chart in 2nd, my power curve was still going up when he let off. Is it normal to make peak power at that high? And why does my 3rd gear dyno so bad?
Exactly the reason I hate dynos. Getting them setup so they give sane, reliable results is not something every dyno operator does, is willing to do, or is capable of doing.
End of the day........ it's just a measuring device attached to a computer. Set up either the measuring device or the computer wrong and it's GIGO (Garbage In, Garbage Out).
Unless your tranny is slipping in 3rd gear there is no reason the results should be so different between gears. A modern chassis dyno is SUPPOSED to compensate for the various speeds/gears you could be running in when measuring HP at the rear wheels.
