a way to backyard test a heater core?

I again am back in okinawa, and never got to getting my heater core swapped out. I have all my IROC receipts in storage, but can't get'em. So now i either wait till next may to get another one, or put this one back in. Is there a way to test it? \

Put your hand over one tube and blow in the other. Listen for air leaking.

Is there any signs of it leaking? White crap from months of build up or grren slime about to turn calcified? If not then find an air hose plug one end fill it with a little bit of water and shoot some air in.

So what was wrong with the engine?

you can use a couple pieces of heater hose, put a pipe plug in one and clamp it, drill another plug and tap it and use either a tire valve or quick connect and connect some low, like 10 psi, air to it and put it in a tank, or pan, of water and look for bubbles.

tested good

hooked it up to my garden hose for 3 hours, plugged other end, and no leaks. The pressure is unknown, but waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than my finger o a rag and my hand could hold back. Figuring a 15 lbs radiator cap, is easy to close pressurized, i am confident i will be fine. The core only has 18,000 miles on it, but sat empty for 7 years.
Oh and the motor ended up having both head gaskets blown, into th lifter valley. No steam on plugs or pistons, but the crank got smoked. I have a shot at an 86 vette l98 long block for 450.00 us dollars. The dude says it ran great, no smoke. He pulled the intake to sell on ebay, so now i want the motor.
