Self-aligning rocker arms...
I need a set for my vortec heads BUT I don't want to spend 300$ for a set of trick flow narrow self aligning roller rockers.
Is there a cheaper alternative I can use for the time being?
BTW they will have to fit under stock valve covers as well.

Probably.... and maybe even a less expensive alternative too. Who knows, there might even be an alternative that is both cheaper and less expensive; or best of all, one that's less expensive but not cheaper.
You can get the Crane ones from GM for less than you can get them from Crane, they just won't be gold anodized. They're the ones that come as part of the LT4 HOT cam kit. Personally I wouldn't run them on the street, since they're aluminum; but that's just me. It's something you can check at least. They might cost a little less than the TFs without being too much cheaper.

The advantage of staying with 1.5 roller rockers is that your idle quality stays the same and no computer reprogramming is needed. Plus 1.6 ratio only adds another 3-4hp over the 1.5s. Roller rocker horsepower gain is most significant due to reduced friction and not increased camshaft lift (which is what the .1 difference in ratio does). 1.6 rollers also make your idle lumpy and 1.5s will not change it at all as that is the stock ration on SBC, LT1, L98/TPIs
Find a set of these that hasn't been run, and it might be a good deal. I personally wouldn't put used those in a car I depended on getting anywhere in.

If I get guide plates installed I can use my stock rocker arms right? I thought about doing that since I might ago ahead and get screw in studs and larger diameter springs installed.

No.
Your stock rocker arms are self-aligning. You cannot use self-aligning rockers and guide plates together. There must be one and only one method of aligning the rockers in effect: either the narrow slots in the heads, or guide plates, or self-aligning rockers. 2 different alignment systems on the same motor will result in teh valve train binding since the 2 systems won't agree perfectly on where they're trying to put the rocker.
I eould not use stock rockers with anything that even dimly resembles a performance engine. They are very weak and bend an unbelievable amount. Their ratio is highly incoinsistent from one to another, so the valves son't all open the same amount. They are garbage even on an otherwise stock motor.

Those will fit. However, they're only roller tip, not roller trunnion like the others. But they are still a huge improvement over stock, since they don't bend and are made with a consistent ratio.

I was gonna just use the stock arms until I can get the money for a set of good roller rockers with 1.6 ratio. But I might just get the ones I posted above.
