The biggest I've ever heard of was about 18", but it was surgically enhanced. 2" I think is the smallest (thats gotta suck). if it's out of round I think you should see a doctor and/or try to get a role in a porno video.

If you look at the crank end of the rod sideways you will see that one side is offset more to get it into the center of the journal more.

Jester,

Wrong crank, er, rod...

Paul,

I think Ed was asking about measurement and tolerance.

Ed E.,

If that's what you wanted, a "typical" SBC rod from anything after 1968 should have a crank journal bore finished at 2.225", a wrist pin bore finished at 0.9375", and a center-to-center distance of 5.690".

Early "small journal" SBCs had 2.125", 0.9375" and the same 5.690" center distance.

Generally, if the journal bore is worn, the rod is a paperweight.

.0002" out of round and I have the journal end re-sized and the pin bushed or pitch them. Depends on the build.

After-market rods are so cheap any more, it's usually worth while to get new rods for anything other than a stock rebuild. To have rods re-conditioned will cost nearly as much as an after-market I-beam.
