The car has been sold, technical question inside....

just thought I'd let you all know that the car has been sold.

ummm...my technical question is this, on my bick regal, it has an electric choke. when i hook a wire to it that has power, the power dies as sooon as you hook it to the choke. no sparks, no fuse blowing, just dead wire when its hooked to the choke. Unhook it and its gets power once again. Whats teh problem??

MYZ,

How many shades of yellow were on the MYZ? (in other words, did you get it painted again since US41?)

The "power" wire you are using for the choke heater is probably not a power wire, but a lead from either the ECM or a dash gauge that has a source that normally gets grounded by a sensor. This would explain the absence of a blown fuse and loss of apparent voltage when connecting to the load.

I don't have any schematics for the "W" body cars, but just for grins check the voltage on the wire to see if it's actually 12VDC or 5VDC. Try to light a small test lamp with the wire and see what happens to the voltage. If my suspicions are correct, the choke heater should be powered by a wire from the auxilliary oil pressure switch, not directly from the ignition switch circuits.
