car continues to run after key is removed

i know what your gona say, but its not carbon deposits or high rpms or idle settings. all 8 cylinders are fireing perfectly and normaly for about 10 seconds after i take the key out. i think the only thing stopping it from running forever is being starved of fuel. everything else shuts down (fuel pump, fans, radio) but for some odd reason now my engine just keeps going uninterupted. it has a nice smooth idle and shuts down nicely after 10 seconds, its almost kind of cool, but since that happend other wierd things are happening. for some reason every now and then my fuse that protects the interior lights/horn keeps blowing. i think mabey when the engine keeps running on, the extra power its produceing mabey sends a surge of power through this circuit, any ideas?

I would say you most likely have a short somewhere. Check the wiring would be the first order of business.

Have you made any recent modifications or changes?

When I first put on an MSD box on my wifes 72 Skylark, it exhibited the same symptoms. Had 2 of the wires crossed on it.

Yeah, you need a new ignition cylinder in the steering column. Had that problem recently with an 85 IROC but it would run FOREVER with the key removed (since it has a mechanical fuel pump and carb).
