Good Cam for 87 LB9

Ok, I think I've finally found an IROC to buy. However, it's only a 305 and I really wanted a 350 but beggers can be choosers. It's an 87 LB9 with 190bhp@4000 and 285lbf@2800. I'll need more power from the stock block and found out that the cam in the 89 LB9 gave it 230bhp@4600 and 330lbft@3200.

The cam in the 87 is as follows:
Duration@ .50" 179deg intake and 194deg exhaust.
Valve lift is .350" intake and .384" exhaust. The cam has a lobe separation of 114.5

The 89 cam is as follows:
207/213 deg intake/exhaust
.415"/.430"
117 deg lobe separation.

Now, doese anyone have any other suggestions of cams that would give me more power? If so how much more and could you give me the manufacturer and part#?

Also, other mods for the engine?

Finally, how difficult is a cam to fit if the blocks in the car and could a novice do it?

Thanks for the help guys.

Those are not different year-model cams. The fist is the infamous "peanut" cam used in 305 automatics and all TBIs, the second is the "other" cam used in 305 TPI 5-speeds and 350s.

Is your car auto or stick?

Look at Comp's roller replacement series. There's one that they call a 262HR, grind number is something like 08-304-12. That's aboutu what you need.

It's not a good first project for a beginner, but if you can find someone with some experience to supervise, you could conceivably do it.

It's an Auto. Will that cam put out more than 230bhp?

Also, I'm not bothered about a rough idle.
