Those who have installed a ZZ4 cam!

The question is, do the marks(circles) on the cam gear and the crankshaft gear meet, or should the cam gear be at aligned towards the top of the block like the crankshaft gear? Thanks in advance!

This isn't unique to a ZZ4 cam. And, the answer is, "It doesn't matter, you can do it either way."

The only difference is whether the engine is in the #1 or #6 firing position. And that only matters when it comes time to put the distributor back in. And, it's best to verify where the engine is by turning the engine over and watching for #1 rocker movement as the mark approaches TDC, or compression on #1 as the mark approaches TDC, because presumeably you've adjusted the valves in between installing the timing set and installing the distributor.

Right... both dots at 12:00 is #1 firing; dot-to-dot is #6 firing, but it's a whole lot easier to see that instance of TDC than the #1 firing instance of it.

Assemble it dot-to-dot for accuracy, and then turn the motor to both at 12:00 to drop the dist in.

Thanks guys, I should have gave it a little more thought. I understand exactly what your saying about which point in the firing order it would be at depending on installation. I installed it with the marks together. Fired it up this morning and she's purring like a kitten.
