Should I buy this Z 28 ?
I've been looking at this '85 Z 28. It's straight. It looks nice til you get up close, it's got T tops that have been leaking and it has rust that's not terminal yet but a few more winters and it will be.
Also the engine is as good as shot and I'm not even sure that all the parts are there. It's an LB9 I think, a tpi.
And then it hasn't been registered in 2 yrs either.
I'd have to put an original looking engine into it that's smog legal, since this is Cali. and register it.
Then there would be the body work, which would include rust repair on the doors, door frames, floor and windshield frame. And it still wouldn't be cherry til a lot of the interior parts were repaired or replaced.
This car could be saved, but it's a major project. Should I go for it? Is anyone else interested?
My neighbor wants $700 for it.

whoa 700??? thats way too much.. sounds like it needs way too much work too.. i've seen better cars in junkyards around here honestly.. the 87 ta I just got my wc t-5 from was a sad case for me.. the body was perfect, no rust, had a 9 bolt with discs the power bulge hood, the paint was good except for the nose which had some peeling clear coat, and the interior looked brand new.. i tried buyin it from the junkyard but the guy wouldnt sell it cause he said it was worth more in parts
so i went back to the yard for some more parts yesterday, there it is sittin, all the windows were smashed in, the hood was on the ground next 2 it bent and looked as if it was run over and the bw disc rear was burried in about a foot of mud.. made me wanna cry..

Hmmm...
So being a Z doesn't make it worth it's weight in gold, does it.
I'm wondering what would make someone want to scrap a car like that??

Unless you can do the body/paint work yourself, I don't think so. Maybe 500 bucks. From the sound of it, it needs to be rebuilt from the ground up. If its in that bad a condition, it probably needs all new tranny/suspension/rear/brakes, etc etc. Probably not a good buy unless those things turn out to not be true and you can do the body/paint work yourself.
