power steering pump,im gonna shoot it

will somebody please tell me how to remove the pulley on my power steering pump. it has a hex head nut in the center of the pulley, do you loosen it to take it off or is it just for tightening? does it turn counter clockwise or clockwise?.. and last does the pulley screw on or is it pressed on?.....its on my 89 350 formula.....thanks

havnt had to take it off yet, thankfully. But, i beleive you need to get a puller to get it off. I beleive they make pulley pullers just for this.

there really shouldnt be any hex nut holding on the pully. The ones i have run into just have the pulley pressed on the shaft. Id get you a pic but its dark out right now.

yes the pullies for power steering pumps are pressed on. I doubt you can get it off without the proper tools without damaging it if you could get it off peroid.

Take it to a shop cause you will need the new pulley pressed on anyway.

dimented24x7 is correct, that is not a hex nut on the pwer steering pump pulley, that is the shaft and the pulley is pressed onto it. Also, as dimented24x7 has mentioned, it requires a power steering pump pulley puller to remove it. You can find these handy dandy tools at any auto parts stores. Believe me, they are a very handy tool to have. The installation of the pulley on the pump shaft is the reverse of the removal and the tool for that is included with the pulley puller.
