Hair brained scheme!! (lol)
How bout this one
is the smog/AIR pump just an over weight unneccessary peice of junk or could it be used for something more... hairbrained
what about hooking it up to the throttle body coolant passages to intercool incoming air.
i think by far this is the most rediculos thing i have come up with for the tpi setup yet so DONT try this unless you want to get laughed at (like I will in this post).
still... the smog pump does have some interesting possibilities...

True story:
The AIR pump on my Olds 88 parts-gofer / beater is connected to a tube, that goes back to a "T" fitting and through the star-wheel adjuster hole, for both back brakes!
My original theory was that it might help keep the drums cool. I'm not sure if it makes a difference there, but the innards are clean and almost dust-free.

Wow, both those ideas are amazing! I never would've come up with that. I like the brake cooling idea

i think i've got you topped.
try a pulley 1/3 the size of the original off a tauras alternator, drill it to bolt to the air pump, rout the air through some fat heater hose to the intake and you've got yourself a supercharger.
the downside is that after 5 seconds the air it blows is like 200 degrees, and now your car sounds like a really pissed off lawnmower. besides it threw the pulley off in a few minutes.
This goes to show what you can come up with when your really bored.....and stupid!
the scary part is that the car actually felt quicker for the first 5 feet!
i can just hear you laughing.

I actually thought of making it into a charger but i figured it would heat up like nobodys buisiness if you overdrove the pump.
I still cant belive someone actually pulled it off though.
If you think these Ideas are nuts try this one on for size.
I once thought about taking an electric leaf blower and sticking it on my intake tract and then hook a speed controler up to the blower and control it from the tach or an msd or something. I still wonder if this would work. it seems like such an improvement over mechanically driven blowers because there is no HP loss to the blower.
oh yea BTW--- DONT TRY THIS.

The leaf blower has been tried! I remember hearing about it a few years ago!
My idea was to run a small A/C evaporator under, or in the intake to help cool the intake charge, similar to what Nitrous does, but obviously not as much all at once.
I still wonder about this one! The parasitic draw would prolly be more than the gain though. Damn it!

Block is in shop!
Awaiting results from all 8 ASE tests.
Starting to look like the Kicker poster child!

Thats not as goofy as my smog-pump supercharger idea (too much beer and free time lead to bad things...). Hehe dont even think about it, it doesnt pump nearly enough. BTW, who says, the air out of the smog pump is cool? It sucks it in from the engine compartment. And blade, lol I can jsut see your oilpan gasket blowing out with that idea
