If its carbed, your choke is leaning out too much.

Pat,

Have you cleaned the IAC and air passages lately? That generally helps with erratic idle speed problems.

If your engine refuses to run at all after cranking, you might have a fuel delivery problem. It's possible that you are starting on the fuel sprayed by the cold start valve but are getting no injector pulses once it's running. Need more info on the exact symptoms, please.

Pat,
I just had a prob just like that with my car, It would crank up and do the same thing and almost die right after starting. Also if it wouldn't die it would idle high and low, high and low before running normal. As Vader said try cleaning your IAC. If it doesn't fix your prob then try to replace your MAF relay. That was the prob with mine. I would recommend replaceing the relay before any parts because its alot cheaper. Oh by the way I m not sure what relay it would be on your car. But on my car I have a 89 tpi it was the second relay on the driver side. I hope that this was some help for you.
