difference in 85 tpi heads and 84 carb heads

Transmission: 700R4
difference in 85 tpi heads and 84 carb heads
is there any difference in them. i have new heads from a 84 305 just machined and my 85 tpi ones need a rebild since it somkes on cold start
so any help will be appreciated

They should be the same head the only difference I can think of might be valve springs because of the cam difference if the 84's are for and lg4.

If all that is wrong with your TPI heads is the valve seals.
Get 16 new 1996 GM truck V-8 L-31 350 Vortec valve seals and put them on.
They are much better than the old "o ring seals" They fit right on the stock valve guides too.
You can replace the valve seals with out removing the heads
with this. Crane #99417-1
While you're in there you can look at the head casting number.
I'll bet they're the same heads.
