I was wondering .. why do ppl get a camshaft that type?
would it be because eveything is connected? unlike hydralique

Higher RPM potential. Like above 7k.
Hydraulic is really a "consumer friendly" system. Keeps you from having to adjust the valves on a regular basis.
Mechanical also gives you some tuning latitude. Small changes in lash, especially intake vs. exhaust, can improve performance on a given engine combination or operating condition.

Well it all depends what you have done to the vortecs, you can have them configured to handle a .600 roller, but $$$ is then an issue. For all out performance with no frills and worries so to speak it's hard to beat mechanical cams for their power potential. Speaking of racing only, you can daily drive them IF your running good roller rockers with poly-locks, the locks cut down lash adjustment considerably over the old stlye rockers arms of old. We've got 1 motor that has seen vavle adjustment once in three years, not that I'd reccomend this, but just gives your an idea of the possibilites.
