(HELP!) Trouble Removing Steering Column...
I'm currently trying to fix my loose tilt steering column. I've already put a post up about this and have been referred to the technical article; however, I'm still running into some difficulty.
I've basically got it apart to the point where the plastic sleeve that houses the hazard switch and blinker/cruise lever is loose. However, there are still some things keeping me from pulling that sleeve all the way off...
1. I can't get the blinker/cruise lever out.
2. I can't get the blinker switch mechanisim out.
Now, the tech article doesn't say anything about removing the blinker switch mechanisim; it just says to loosen the wires under the dash so that you can pull the switch over the steering shaft. I actually didn't even need to do that to get it over the shaft; however, I don't see any way of pulling the plastic sleeve out without completely removing the blinker switch. The same really goes for the blinker/cruise lever.
I have looked under the dash and found where the blinker wires go to and have disconnected them; however, the plug ends are mounted somehow to the steering column under the dash (and I can't figure out how to get them off). Moreover, the wires appear to be routed beneath the large bracket that holds the whole column up--and I KNOW the article didn't say anything about dropping the whole column.
Currently, the car is sitting in the driveway without a steering wheel or even a place to put a key. I need to have this fixed ASAP because I need to travel back to school before Monday.
Any ideas/tips?
Thanks!

the turn signal lever should pull straight out, threee screww hold the turn signal switch in, plus the hazard button remove them, unplug the harness at the botton of the column and pull it out enough to lay over out of your way

I had fun with the turn signal too
it WILL just pull out, but it has to be rotated to the right spot. (Don't remember what it was)
Turn and pull, turn and pull, till it comes out (and yah, you have to pull fairly hard)
It doesn't hurt anything to drop the steering column, I did to make it easier to get at stuff, if you do, pull the plate off the bottom, and there's a sleeve that holds the wires...
