Gas tank install woes, part 2

This is really starting to annoy the crap out of me ...I just spent the last 4 hours trying to get my gas tank back in my car (taking it out was easy). I did this last year and somehow managed to get it but now its giving me the same problem...

I can get the filler neck through the hole and all BUT for some reason the damn tank wont go up all the way. The tank just won't sit straight and it needs to go up about an inch more. Last time I had the exact same problem and SOMEHOW got it right (and that took me 2 days)... Is there some kinda trick to this?

Its hard to explain ...The tank sits crooked the drivers side sits farther back than the passenger (with the filler neck through the hole in the right location). No matter which way I move it, the result is always the same and it doesnt seem to be hitting anything.

GAS TANK REMOVAL/INSTALL IS THE MOST FRUSTRATING THING I'VE EVER HAD THE DISPLEASURE OF DOING ON MY CAR! I'd rather pull the motor 3 times than do 1 tank.

So anyway ...any tips?
Thanks,
Chris

i've done a few and don't have 4 hours in all of them combined. i always have some stick a hand in the fuel fill door and guide the filler neck into place. it halps to have the car as high as you can so you can move or angle the tank

Yep, you need an extra pair of hands to guide that filler neck, it is probably hanging up on something and stopping the tank from seating in place.

Ive done a few by myslef.

Support the tank with a floor jack now and re check the filler.

The hardest part was getting the filler next through the hole by myself. after that is was easy.

Easy to get out?!?! Mine was major PITA to get out, putting back in was easy. Of course it had half a tank of gas in it when I took it out. The most important thing is to have the car as high as you can get it and the rear end as low as you can .
