383 stroker??
what is needed to convert to a 383 on my 350? i know u have to get a 400 crank . but can i reuse my rods and pistons ? i heard about the different piston wrist pin boss heights and different rod lengths . which is the most efficient ($) way to do it? ive just rebuilt my engine because it had low oil psi and the only thing i reused was the crank so ill have to replace it , so i might as well stroke it

You will need a crank with a 3.75" stroke & 350 size main journals, aka 383 stroker crank. The 400 crank journals are the wrong size to fit in your 350 block. They can be ground down, but when you can get one already made correctly with better metal, for around $250, it's not worth it. You can reuse your rods, but the piston height will be wrong. With a 5.7" rod & a 3.75" crank you will need a piston with a compression height of 1.420". A 350 with a 3.48" stroke & 5.7" rods needs a piston with a compression height of 1.555". Block clearancing will also have to be done at the oil pan rails. Another area is the the top of the rod bolt can hit the cam lobe, stroker profile rods or different rod bolts with a smaller head can remedy this. Lastly the rotating assembly should be balanced by a competent machine shop.

How much clearance are you looking for at the pan rails? I have about 3/8" or so there. I was told that all you need is 1/8" by the guys at the machine shop.
Thanks
