Computer showing codes 13 and 41
Computer showing codes 13 and 41
Hey there guys, hopefully someone can help me out. My car started running oddly yesterday while driving around town....later that night while on the interstate the SES light blipped on and the car seemed to loose power for an instant (did this at about 65-70mph) Did it twice more (at 40 and 15 mph) last night, and once today (at 35mph) Same loss of power feeling for an instant each time. The code 13 has been there, just waiting for a decent day to change the O2 sensor.....My questions are: Are these two codes related at all, and what exactly is a code 41....I don't understand what the FAQ is talking about. Also yesterday it started making a sound like a bad waterpump or alt. or a belt that's slightly loose....I haven't traced this down, but could it be related? By the way the car is a 1987 camaro 305 4bbl auto tranny with 145000 miles and needs a tune up Sorry for the long post, and thank you for you help
Hey, me again.....well it has gone from bad to worse.....The car now barely runs at idle (sputters and misses) and is only slightly better under throttle. The SES light stays on constantly now...the strange high pitched squeal is gone.....any ideas? I need help!!
Schoon,
The '41' on your car is a EST error. The ECM is not getting distributor reference pulses when the engine is running. Apparently, this is intermittent. The '13' is probably not related to the '41' unles you have a wiring problem between the ECM and engine. Remove the oxygen sensor and check the connection. You can test the sensor with a DMM and propane torch. A good sensor in the flame of a torch should produce at least about a 0.7VDC signal, then drop rapidly when the torch flame is removed. If the sensor tests O.K., check the electrical connector for the sensor and make sure the exhaust is well grounded.
For the '41' check the wiring around the distributor and EST module. It's also possible that the HEI amplifier/switch module is failing. Testing this can be elaborate with a meter and power supply, so it's almost as easy to stop by your local parts store and have them test it. Usually, it's a free service.
