HELP, my lights went out......!!!!

AS mentioned, today all of the sudden my lights gave out......

When i turn on the headlights the only thing that turns on is the headlights....

NO interior gauge lights, NO blinkers, NO tails, NO side lights

However when i turn on my hazzards or press the brakes they seem to be working....

The interior lights don't however

Another thing, the fuse labeled "tails" is blown, and whenever i turn on the lights the fuse blows...........

Please anyone who might know what's causing this to happen, help me out, the only lights working on the car are the headlights....

You've got a short somewhere....trace the wires that go to your lights and see if they're all clean and in good condition. I'm no electrical expert, but that's a good place to start. Maybe someone who knows more can give you some better tips. Good luck.

Have you changed any bulbs recently? Check everywhere for damaged wiring, burned out bulbs, wires being pinched against the sheet metal, maybe one of the tail light bulbs got caught in the studs that hold the housings on the body, perhaps?

Okay, I was thinking turn signal shorting out, but I just read that you have hazard flashers and brake lights. If you get a short in the turn signals and turn on the flashers, you will lose brake lights as well, not to mention that the fuse attached to the turn signals will blow when you activate them (I can't remember which it is without looking at the moment)

Most especially check the bulbs. The ones for the front marker lights have only one filament and are easilt broken, causing a short if the filament ends touch bare metal. Fuses are blown if a short occurs somewhere in the circuit, mine was in both the STOP/HAZ circuit (when I turned on the hazard flashers) and the TAILS (I don't really know, that one was really rubbed out, blowing when I turned on the left turn signal).

My problem was that somehow a wire running down the steering column from the turn signal switch had gotten broken and was grounding out on the column itself, and since the HAZ switch went through the turn signal switch and was supposed to carry current through that wire, ZAP! Out went the fuse... Same happened when I turned on the left turn signal.

Also, maybe the switch could be toast? Turn the **** to all the way bright and the interior lights should come on. If they blow the fuse, that's where you look first.

Good points

I will look everywhere for burnt out bulbs, but here is the odd thing.....

The fuse for my TURN B/U, which i'm assuming is for the back up lights and turn signals is NOT blown.....the only fuse that blows is my TAILS. Does this mean the short is somewhere in the wiring for the taillights....??

It's odd becuase i have no interior lights as well, the gauge cluster and HVAC controls lay un-lit as well?

I'll check the burnt out bulbs tonight and post my results.....

The instrument cluster circuit gets its power off of the tail light circuit; that's how it turns on when you turn the tail lights on. So it's normal and correct that they should go out when the tail light fuse blows.

Check the bulbs and sockets carefully, front and rear (the front parking lights are on that circuit also IIRC); if all of that is good, then it's a pinched wire somewhere, which can be a hassle to find. Start at the sockets where it's the easiest and hope for the best.

Transmission: Completed
Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
The interior lights run off the CTSY fuse...
The other stuff sounds like a shorted bulb or a pinched power wire.
