i appreciate your willingness to help. i have an 85 iroc. original tpi/auto. from time to time, when i go to start the car (after ive been driving for a while), it will start, but instead of idling to about 2grand and gently dropping down, it will start and immediately idle at about 600 or less and barely run. this happened last week and when i went to start it the next day it would start at all. i took out the plug and it was soaked with gas. i cleaned it off, put it back in, and now its working fine again. i thought it might be the fuel pump or fpr, but im not sure. i dont have a fuel pressure tester to check fuel pressure, and right now (being the holidays etc.) i dont have money to go buy one. what should i do?? what is it??? i thank you again for your willingness to help me out.

Pat,
If you are wetting plugs, you are either way too rich or the ignition is failing.
The idle speed problem could be related to the mixture control, or might not be.
Since the idle speed (and to some extent, mixture) is controlled by the IAC, I would suggest removing and cleaning the IAC stepper motor and air passages in the throttle body. Set the TPS voltage to spec and go from there.
