Oil, Spark Plug, Ignition, Manifold problem!!AHHH
Hey guys, I just converted from tbi to carb.
Edelbrock performer rpm and edelbrock 600cfm carb. and points ignintion with super stock coil and wires. Ther carb is jetted lean for a 350 but i guess thats would be rich on a 305 right.
And while everything is almost great, I got this great miss when i first turn on the engine and its cold, it backfires at anything higher than cruising until it warms up.(Veryfast poping) After that it will still do it but seldomly and only at high rpms.
I was thinking it was an intake leak so i hooked up a vac tester and pulled 22 inches of vacuum with fast woble of .3 at most. The car only smokes at start up (white) then clear as it always was.
I decided to take out the plugs and found that the back two spark plugs were wet with oil.???What would cause this???Intake sucking in oil, if so why woulnt my tailpipes smoke??? Do i need higher heat range plugs. If a plug is fouled and doesnt fire is it normal for oil to deposit there?? excessive idling?? Or could it really be fuel mixed with soot to look like oil, from opening the throttle so many times without firing the engine????
I need your help guys please.

Try changing those spark plugs first, and look at the rest of the ignition system to see if anything else is worn down. (cap, rotor, wires) Then see what happens.
Is it possible that since you switch to points that you need a resistor going to the coil? Just a thought.
