Are the ZZ4 heads basically the aluminum L98 heads that came on l98 vettes?
Since they have 58cc combustion chambers, would they be a good head for a 305TPI motor? I'm thinking there would be considerable weight savings right off the bat...

Not "basically"; but rather, exactly.
No they would not be particularly good for a 305; since aluminum is a better conductor of heat and therefore "siphons off" the heat that might otherwise go toward making power, you need to run higher compression with aluminum to make the same power as iron, all other things being equal. That's why they make about the same power as the 64cc iron heads do in the other version of L98. You might be able to get some of that back by shaving them a little, and then ceramic-coating the chambers..... $$$$$

I think the sr's are a better choice then..(just read about no egr as well). hmmm, too many decisions!!!
