couple of 383 stroker ?'s

alright I am getting ready to do a major engine build. I need to know what cams work good in stroker engines along with a good set of heads.I was thinking about using the vortecs but the compression would be way to high cause the pistons that come with the kit are 10.3cr with 64cc heads and vortecs are 62cc right? What about the pro lightening heads good or bad. My goal with this engine is over 400hp and over 500ft lbs of torque.

Don't go much over 10:1 with iron heads or 11:1 with aluminum heads.
With port injection a 383 will like 220cc and larger intake port volume, but no more than 200cc ports with a carburetor on a street engine.

Between 220* and 225* duration with 112* LSA is a good match for the 3.75" stroke of a 383. You need to match the lift numbers to the flow #'s on whatever head you choose to run.

Pro heads are just fine if you have a competent porter work them over.

I have a 294* solid magnum cam with .525 on both sides would this one work with 1.5r rockers or should I go with one smaller than this.

I also went with a kit and mine also came with 10:3:1 with 64cc, but I emailed him and asked him if that was at a 0 deck height. He said it was and if the deck was not at 0 then the compression with 64cc would be around lower around 10:1:1 I'm using the TF 23* heads and LPE219 cam with superram

The L31 Iron Vortec heads are 64cc chambres with 170cc intake ports and 1.94 intake and 1.50 exhaust valves. So your compression should be 10.3:1 which should be all right on pump gas just make sure to always use premium.
Now there is an Aluminum Vortec head with 62cc chambres and 210cc intake ports and 78cc exhaust ports which are D shaped with 2.00 intake and 1.55 exhaust valves. These also should work since there aluminum and you can go with a little higher compression on aluminum heads. I'd still use premium gas though.
The Aluminum Vortec's run about $600 each while the iron ones are only about $250 each. Good luck with your build which ever way you go.
