I have no idea where my fuel pump is, and im almost 100% sure its an electric fuel pump, but i was wondering, some1 told me my fuel pump was inside of my gas tank, and i have a 1989 RS 173 v6 2.8 liter engine, sooo if u kno where it is and if in the gas tank then how to get to it to replace it then help me plzzz

i don't know about a v6 but i bet its TBI which means the fuel pump is most likely in the gas tank...
easy job, jack the back end up, you'll see two straps that hold the tank on with bolts... have the jack hold the tank up and it was really easy with two guys, but not necessasy...i think there is 3 lines coming out of the tank... you may even be able to replace the pump without disconnecting the lines..
if u do replace it, get a good pump, not a cheapy...especailly if u want to keep the car... i know on some "carbed" v8's the pump is located on the side of the engine passenger side, trace your fuel lines... if you see nothing by the motor, assume its in the gas tank...

you car should be fuel injected.. as far as a proformance pump there really isnt any need for it.. it wont make your car any faster, all you need is a pump that is capable of reaching and maintaining the required pressure (basically a stock pump), as far as dropping the rear yeah you need to so you can get the tank out, it might be possible to somehow just lower it enough and squeeze it in there somehow but i've never heard of anyone doing it, some people cut an access panel above the tank and do it that way and weld it back, personally i'd just do it the right way and drop the rear, your call, if you do it on a lift you can leave the lca's connected and just drop the rear low enough so the tank can clear... good luck!
edit: why are you replacing the pump anyway?
