what would your choice be for a roller cam for a vortec headed 350
what intake? (carb)
yes, the heads will be machined to handle the lift of the cam

How much HP do you want?
What will be the main purpose of the car?
And the most important question.......
How much money do you have?
There have been numerous built ups by Car Craft, Hot Rod, and Chevy High Performance magazines. They all seem to like the Comp Cams XE268 cam, but that doesn't mean it's great for everyone. After all, you want a roller cam.

I currently am running the xr270hr comp cam 218 deg in @.050, 224 deg ex. @.050. and lift at about .500 on both. I had non ported 305 heads on it before and ran 14.8 at 98mph with a 2.5 60 ft time. I have an open diff. Now I have the vortecs but haven't been back to the track. Seat of the pants seems to indicate a noticeable diff. I had the performer RPM on the 305 heads and have the RPM for vortecs now.
The cam idles almost like stock. Gas mileage is at least 18 mpg. I would probably use the next step up if I was to do the cam again. That's either a XR274 or XR276, can't remember.
I have a T5 with 3.42 gears. It feels like it's ready to shift at 5500 rpm with the current cam. But haven't been to the dyno to know for sure where power drops off.

well, for the time being the car is my daily driver, but that is going to change soon
and this next engine swap wont happen until i get my next toy
but yes, a roller cam, and since its a roller block i will be using, i dont mind shelling out the cash for one (versus a flat tappet block where i would need to shell out $400 just for lifters)
