The right spark plugs...
Just a question....yesterday when I had my oil changed and my new fuel filter put on....I asked if they could give me an estimate on putting new plugs in b/c I had brought along a set of BOSCH platinum plugs for my 87 TA, ONLY b/c i dont think the plugs have been changed recently and sometimes I need to turn the key 3-4 times before it starts since i've bought the car...and well, this is michigan we're talking about!
The estimated cost JUST for the plugs to be put on was $112.00...so I was like
...thats crap! SO i didnt have that done. However, before I left...the mechanic who worked on my car asked me where I got them and then told me I should return them and get ACDelco's instead.
My understanding is that with the new BOSCH Plat. series, the ONLY difference is that the fine filiment of metal used to conduct the spark is platinum...which is a slightly better conductor for a not so slightly higher price!
So please, let me in on why I should go with the ACD's instead of the BOSCH?!?!!? Again, the only reason I want to put new plugs in is for preventive mantinence since this will be my first winter owning this car and due to the two facts that this is Mich. we're talking about and because as stated earlier, it sometimes takes 3-4 GOOD turns(not quick turns, but GOOD ones where I hold the key for a about 1-2 seconds but not killing the trans!).
thx!

It won't matter that much which plugs you run, just don't gap them very wide and avoid the screw-on tips.
Your starting problem is probably the carburetor and/or choke that needs some adjusting.

some spark plugs do produce a higher output, which in all honest another $1.45 for them isn't worth it when the delcos are a good plug and the performance isn't all the noticible... least from my expierence..
buy the delcos, and save the money and do it yourself...
do it one plug at a time and match the wire size from the old to the new plug wires.
piece of cake, n gap the plugs as stated.
do it yourself!!!
