darn pop-up headlights
darn pop-up headlights
Check this out...Never had problems with the pop-up eyeballs on my 91 bird before. The other night when I switched off the lights, one(drivers side) stayed up. In the morning I closed it manually. Then I tested it and it worked...however it seems like it is not totally in sinc with the other headlight and it makes a little noise that ain't nothin nice. Anyone ever experienced this?

Mine does that sometimes. My lights work great only in cold weather. During the summer time, I usually have to pull them up by hand, but they usually go down by themselves. On occassion one will stay up. Don't know what causes this. Maybe one day I'll see about it.

I recall reading something about plastic bearings that can wear out. They can be replaced with metal ones however, I forget the size. Search the archives and you should find the post.
Good luck

SB,
There are three relays controlling the headlamp motors. One isolates each motor and gives it direction (up or down), and the third Master relay operates the isolation relays. Check the relay on the offending side. If swapping the relays causes the problem to movem you might have found the problem. If not, the end limit switches on the motor might be wearing or getting dirty. Try disconnecting the power from the offending motor (a single wire connector) and pull the hand **** up and down without twisting it. You should be able to hear the end switch "click" open and closed when you do. The same thing should occur at the other end of motor travel. If the switch closure is not positive, you will probably be removing the headlight motor for repair. There are repair kits that contain the necessary Delrin bushings to tighten up the worm gear assembly.

Vader, the motors turn and work fine, but I believe the gears or interlocking parts inside are stripped. It doesn't bother me because 99% of the time they work just fine. I can live with that. The only other problem I have with mine is that when I turn just my parking lights on, the headlights come up too but they are not on. I heard this may be a bad switch.

Hey Vader, I bypassed all of the relays and the original wires due to major elecrical problems. Anyway, I used a dual post, on-off-on switch for the up and down motion. What I've noticed is that "Click". What my question is, is, how do I get rid of it. If I put my lights all the way down, I have to go out and turn the manuals up till they click. Not a big problem, but just to make life easier for me.
